Yesterday, Ald. Schulter, his fellow members of the City Council’s Licensing and Consumer Protection Committee, and City staff held a meeting with invited members of the Chicago entertainment industry, including CMC, on the proposed event promoter ordinance.
"Promoters Ordinance" Public Comments Extended Until May 30

CMC has extended the Public Comment Process Regarding City of Chicago Promoters Ordinance (4-157) from the original deadline of May 23, 2008.
Airport Music Program Re-Launches with Live Concert at O'Hare

The Department of Aviation and the Chicago Music Commission just launched a re-vamped overhead music program – Terminal Tunes - that features instrumental versions of songs by blues, jazz, country and classical artists who are either from the Chicago area or record for Chicago-based record labels.
So if you hear a catchy tune while rushing to catch a plane, you can go on-line and track down the music. Soon, you’ll also be able to purchase Terminal Tunes CDs from shops in the airports as well.

Chicago Music Commision to present landmark panel of Chicago music movers and shakers Thursday, January 24th, 2008
On Thursday, January 24, the Chicago Music Commission convened a diverse panel of experts for a groundbreaking public conversation on the economic opportunities being generated by Chicago’s growing music industry. The event took place at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance at Millennium Park, 205 E. Randolph Street., open to the public free of charge. Never before has a panel of such caliber come together in public to discuss Chicago’s music industry, its future, and its impact on Chicago’s economy at large.

The CMC commissioned the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Cultural Policy to undertake the first-of-its kind Economic Impact Study. This unique study details the size, scope and significance of Chicago music as an economic engine, compares its economic contributions to our peer cities across the country (including New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Memphis, Austin and Seattle) and provides a benchmark for the CMC, the City of Chicago and the Chicago music community to measure their future performance.
