Event Promotion Survey

In order to better understand the business of promotion in Chicago, especially as it relates to how risk is shared between promoters and venue owners, CMC is conducting an on-line survey of promoters in Chicago and those who work with them.  This is not a professional assessment that CMC believes should be done at some point.  Rather, this is a survey that will provide CMC with useful data that will inform our position on the event promoter ordinance now under consideration in the City Council.  We will also share the aggregate results of the survey with City officials.

CMC will keep all information sought below anonymous at all times.

Survey for:
PPA and Special Events Licensees | Promoters

Questions for PPA and Special Events Licensees
Are you a PPA (i.e. venue owner) or Special Events licensee?

If so, how do you handle working with outside promoters in Chicago now?

Do you require them to have their own liability insurance?

If so, how much liability coverage do you require them to have?

Do you allow them to be added as “additionally insured” on your existing policy?

If so, at what cost to them?

Do you allow them to work without some form of separate insurance (due to past good performance, an existing relationship, etc.)?

Do you currently “co-insure” the City of Chicago on your existing insurance policy?

Questions for Promoters
How do your handle working with PPA (i.e. venue owners) and Special Events licensees when promoting shows in Chicago now?

Do you have your own insurance policy?

If so, how much liability coverage do you have?

Is it “blanket” (i.e. for a fixed period of time) or event-specific?

If you have your own policy, what do you pay in premiums?

Have you been added as an “additionally insured” on a venue owner’s insurance policy?

If so, how much did that cost you?

Did you pay for individual event coverage or for broader coverage?

Have you promoted a show at a venue that did not require you to have your own insurance?

Given your answers to the above and your current business model, would you be able to afford the proposed premiums of the experimental promoter insurance that would be required if this ordinance becomes law?
